It's not easy researching for Norwegian genealogy information. Especially when a person doesn't read Norwegian. The Brodahl name is the hardest to find...the Brodahls, Wolds and Hollums came from Trondheim. Erik Wold and his wife Marit Hollum were born
there about 1840-50. I love the music on this site.

Very nice presentation. Have been finding that searching for the Norwegian side of my genealogy is a horriby daunting task. The name changes are driving me nuts. Have read everything I can find but doesn't make it any easier. My great grandmother Olea Ro
always insisted she was related to the King of Norway. Could get interesting if there was a way to follow it up.
Keep up the nice work. Enjoy reading it.

Hi, my maternal grandmother's family came from Trondhjem, Norway. We have the Falck line back to about 1465 when a Rockert Van Valckenier went from Holland to Norway and the name changed to Falchener and then it changed to Falch or Falck. My grandmother
s branch moved to Wisconsin around 1880 or 1890 and they used the name Falck. My greatgrandparents were: Severin Hartvig Falck, born in Lovoya, Norway and Bertine Fjaer born in Namdalen, Norway. Bertine's parents were: Ole Grylling and Petternella Sve
son. If you have any info on any of these people, especially Bertine and her parents, please contact me, thanks!!! Diane Lancaster-Lovejoy

I have traced most of my ancestry to specific places in Norway except for one great grandfather, Knudt Gilbertson Wick, who came from somewhere in Hardanger. He was born in 1848 or 1849, an only child whose father died around 1850. He should be in the 1
65 census but I suppose the name could be Gulleiksen, or Gudbrandson and "Vik" could have come from "Ulvik" or some other place ending in vik.
My other ancestors are from Hedmark, Sør Trondelag and Oslo.

Dear Martin,
I fell in love with your page at first site, especially the Christmas page. I even passed it on to a terrific waitress in a restaurant that shared her family's cherished recipe for lefse made from potato flakes (instead of pealing all those potatoes!) wit
a perfect stranger. I thought it was the best thing I could give her in return!
I just began my genealogical search this summer, not expecting to discover very much. It seemed that all my elderly relatives had just died recently. I made a wild call to the Westby, Wisconsin newspaper and asked for the name of the oldest Norwegian lady
the editor knew. She didn't know my people but referred me on to another elderly lady, and so on and so on.
Come to find out, I have lots of relatives alive that I have never met. It has been heartwarming to listen to their stories of my departed loved ones and give me the history of the family. I even made some blind emails to Goplens on web pages and discover
d a whole missing side of the family in Richland Center, Wisconsin. Paul, a third cousin, gave me my great-grandmother Christine's line all the way back to 1586 in Norway! He was excited to get the "lost line" of his family.
What has been a real surprise is how intermarried 4 of my lines, Goplin, Bakken,Adams, and Applemans, are! Due to the sparseness of population in rural Vernon County, everyone knew everyone else (and were often married to them!) so I was able to work on 4
lines at once!
I was put in touch with a "Parr" who had researched my Adams and Appleman line back to the 1700's, only to find out that I had a picture of his great-great-grandmother and grandfather.
I have discovered farmers and mill hands, professors and horsethieves.
I hope to use your pages to research my other lines. I have Rasmussens from Levanger/Trondjem and Nielsens from Trondjem. I can find their families in the 1900 Norwegian Census (thanks to your web links) but not before that.
The big mystery is why my great-grandmother Christine Goplen had the same maiden name as her husband and his parents. Did they adopt her Norwegian farm name or were they too originally from one of the 2 Goplen farms in Land having emmigrated many years be
ore her family.
Anyway, you asked for a "comment" not a book, so I will end this!
Sincerely,
Lisa Butler
Monument, CO

I visited my mother's family in and around Rykene/Grimstad this summer, travelled to Stavanger where my father's family comes from and up to Bergen for the joy of it. I could have just stayed forever. Norway is the most beautiful place I have ever been,
and I felt at home there as I feel nowhere else. We know a lot about my mother's family, but little about my father's, except that they are Olsens from Stavanger and have been there for 700 years! My great-grandmother, Olefine Olsen, left Stavanger via
ristiansand in 1886 (I think). My great-grandfather, Thorkel Olsen, must have been a sailor or seaman, having arrived in New York and sent for his entire family (wife and 3 daughters). Everybody ended up in Brooklyn, New York, where I was born.

Men desverre så hadde du ikke det. Jeg har spørt alle som jeg kjenner men ingen kan hjelpe

You have some very interesting items on your magazine. My dad recently was in
Norway doing research on the family history, and he is now in the process of
writing it. I am an artist, and I was searching for some norwegian art motifs

community, and in Torpo, ol Community. He has asked me to do some artwork for
the cover of his family history. I was looking for some styles of homes, and
decorative motifs. If you can be of any help, or know a site that I may look
at, it would be a bo n to my research as well. Thanks and good Luck to you!
